Sometimes we have to “think outside the box” to bring a room to life. A particular colour, a scenic window view, or perhaps an unusual architectural feature, each may serve as the central theme from which a design scheme will inevitably flow. But where there is no such obvious inspiration we can still create it with a little bit of design “magic”. This bedroom was square, very square, with no obvious features to fire the design process. So we went with “squares and rectangles” as the inspiration. Rugs, bedding, cushions, curtains and even bedside furniture and artwork were selected to reflect rectangles and squares. We then softened all those straight lines using the natural landscape depicted in the artwork and the circular bedside lampshades. When all else fails, simple shapes can sometimes be the way to bring a great design scheme together.
